  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp chili powder (optional for heat)
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp plant-based butter
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp beef drippings (from slow cooker or roasting pan)
  • 1 tbsp vinegar (sub for Worcestershire sauce)

Instructions

  1. Rub the brisket with olive oil and season generously with salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and optional chili powder.
  2. Sear each side of the brisket in a hot skillet until browned (4-5 minutes per side).
  3. Place seared brisket into a slow cooker or roasting pan; add beef broth, sliced onions, and minced garlic. Cook on low for about 8 hours until fork-tender.
  4. For the sauce: Melt plant-based butter in a saucepan; stir in brown sugar until dissolved. Add barbecue sauce and vinegar; simmer for 10 minutes.
  5. Shred the cooked brisket and mix with the sauce and drippings from cooking.
  6. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake uncovered for 20-30 minutes until caramelized.
