  • 1.5 pounds beef belly
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 thumb-sized piece of ginger, peeled and sliced
  • ¼ cup light soy sauce
  • ¼ cup dark soy sauce
  • ⅓ cup apple vinegar
  • ¼ cup hoisin sauce
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Heat vegetable oil in a large pan over medium heat. Sear beef belly pieces until browned on all sides, about 5–7 minutes. Remove from the pan.
  2. In the same pan, sauté minced garlic and sliced ginger for 1–2 minutes until fragrant.
  3. Return the beef belly to the pan and add light soy sauce, dark soy sauce, apple vinegar, hoisin sauce, brown sugar, and water. Stir well.
  4. Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce to low and simmer uncovered for 1 to 1½ hours until tender and the sauce thickens into a sticky glaze.
  5. Adjust seasoning if needed and serve hot garnished with chopped green onions and sesame seeds.
